Seriously, I thought we had a thing where we’d wait a bit before announcing who won races since not everyone may be watching (like a 24 hour grace period for them). Or am I crazy?

Stef has an article about it on the main page. I don’t think Oppo follows any rules.

Yeah and the fucking front page too, I told them they were dicks posting the Hamilton win as the lead in pic and title?? I guess I will just have to avoid Oppo and the FP until I watch, I usually end up on a show working late and then I download the Sky coverage and watch after I get up and take the dog out. Dicks!!

To be fair, they report shit, so I can’t blame them for that.

My initial post included a spoiler which you couldn’t see unless you clicked on it.

That obviously didn’t matter since 5 posts went up at the same time.

Or you could do what I do and avoid any automotive site until after you watched the race. Haven't been spoiled with any F1 results so far, 100% works!

I was recently enlightened to that rule after spoiling Monaco qualifying for some people yesterday, so I know not to now. The only reason I posted today was because there was already 4 people who had posted it before me, so it had already been spoiled. Not really an excuse though.

citizennick? More like citizen dick

Yeah, I saw your post, that’s the way I thought it was supposed to go. Also, now the main page is flooded with posts that are literally one word.

*Disclaimer: I say the following as a regular Oppo, NOT as a mod*

Personally, I don’t think the spoiler rule makes sense for Oppo, especially for the big deal races like Indy. When something exciting happens people want to be able to celebrate with like-minded enthusiasts, and putting restrictions on how they can do that takes a bit away from that high. If there’s a race going on that I know I won’t be able to catch live and I don’t want spoiled until I can watch it later I stay away from Oppo and the other places that might have results or information. I think it’s easier and more logical for me to do that than for the people on those sites to cater to me.

Fair enough. I was weighing that thinking, it was just kind of a “I swear this was an unofficial rule” moment. But yeah, you’re probably right.

It may have been, I don’t know (those unofficial rules are had to keep track of with the way they’re created/modified/abolished). I’m just voicing my general opinion on the subject, regardless of whether it was a thing or not.

Agreed. Something exciting happens, people want to talk about it. I didn’t finished the F1 race until 2pm central. Know how I wasn’t spoiled? Because I don’t visit Jalopnik or Oppo until I finish a race. Novel idea, right?!

How dare the people who get paid to report on racing actually report on racing!

Yeah, I’ve only been here for four years, so who knows what the unofficial rules are. But thanks for your input!

There’s literally never been any sort of spoiler rule here or on the front page.

Not officially, but I swear there was something unofficial. Once again, maybe I’m crazy.

How dare you ask people to put their 3 word post after a jump like a decent human being. Do you have any idea how much extra work it takes to think of other people.

http://oppositelock.kinja.com/just-a-reminde…

there used to be a rule but not enforced. I try to watch live as much as possible though sometimes I have to work sundays which cant catch up till Sunday night. It just comes off as dickish, escpecially when its followed by “this will piss off the whiners” sooo you knew it would piss people off so you did it and somehow dont think you’re a dick?!?!

I mean I don’t check here when there is a race I’m not catching live, though yesterday I made a post about the Champions League final and was sorta careful not to spoil it in the title, since you wouldn’t expect to find futbol info on here...

I still managed to get Perez being on the podium spoiled, despite my better efforts.

Everyone should be able to celebrate/mourn with their teams publicly if they so chose. Those who insist on (or otherwise end up) watching a delayed broadcast should be aware that the world does not revolve around them, and that automotive themed publishings will reveal the results.

Personally I enjoy watching live, but only to enjoy the results as they happen. My greatest interest is in the results. If given a delayed opportunity to observe the events, I will do so, but already knowing and expecting the outcome.

As far as movies go, yeah, have a little respect, make it clear you’d be spoiling the plot before you go and do it (cause there’s not much point to watching the movie) but sporting events? Nah. You have to shut off every single form of media to keep them out. Good luck and good riddance to those who try.
